Assay Litharge is a special type of lead oxide. Highly pure lead oxide is used in the determination of gold and silver by fire assay. High-purity form of lead oxide (PbO), its quality is paramount to the integrity of precious metal analysis. In the demanding environment of assay laboratories, where even trace impurities can compromise results, the exceptional purity of Assay Litharge makes it an indispensable fluxing agent. It efficiently collects precious metals during the fusion stage, forming a lead button that encapsulates the gold and silver, enabling their precise separation and quantification. Its color is typical a reddish-orange , easy to change color when exposed to light.

Litharge of Functions in the fire assay process
l Collector: When Litharge reduces into lead, it rains downd under the form of droplets through the sample collecting all metals
l Fluxing agent
l Desulphuriser: Prevents the formation of ‘Matte’ (by oxidation of sulphurs)
l Solvent: Litharge acts as a solvent for metallic oxides
l Prevents formation of ‘Speiss‘ (by oxidation of antimony and arsenic).
l Prevents reduction into lead button of those metals below lead in the redox potential series.
l Combined with acid reagents PbO forms an efficient Solvent for acid and basic Oxide Compounds that are too viscous at furnace temperature.
Packing
The fire assay flux is packed in 25kg bags, 25kg iron drum or as customers’ requirement.
Storage:
Stored in dry and ventilate place; kept far away from fire, water or strong acid; Preventing from dampness.
